Just in time to celebrate or commiserate the election of a new president depending on your politics, as of November 21, 2012, New Jersey employers will be required to have yet one more poster that reminds employees of their rights against gender discrimination.

New Jersey employers currently must post EEO notices under Title VII and the New Jersey Law Against Discrimination.  If this is news to you, you can find the federal poster here and the New Jersey poster here.

The new law requires employers with 50 or more employees to post a notice reminding employees of their rights to be free of gender inequity or bias in pay, compensation, benefits or other terms and conditions of employment under the New Jersey Law Against Discrimination, Title VII, and the Equal Pay Act.

The law also requires employers to provide a written notification annually, on or before December 31st of each year, of the employee’s rights.

The law seems to me to be gilding the lily as both the federal EEO poster and the NJLAD poster already state that it is illegal to discriminate on the basis of gender in all terms of employment.  Nonetheless, employers must still comply.

Under the law, the Commissioner of Labor and Workforce Development must develop the poster, If the poster has not been developed by November 21, 2012, then employers will have 30 days from the date it was issued to post it.
